Booklist Review of Communities
Communities form when people have something in common, whether that’s simply where they live or a shared culture, religion, or set of values. In this book from the Building Relationships series (6 titles), readers will get a good sense of communities large and small through relatable examples, such as being a part of a family or a book club and working in a community garden or participating in a festival that celebrates one’s culture. Happy faces abound in the book’s many photos, and bright colors create backgrounds for the main text.
Each of the three chapters highlights a key concept (community relationships, active listening, and volunteering) as it encourages readers to find meaningful connections with others. A final “Goals and Tools” page contains actionable prompts and underscores the importance of empathy and respect in relationships.
